Velocity of Electroweak Bubble Walls

چکیده

We study the velocity of bubble walls in the electroweak phase transition. For several extensions of the Standard Model, we estimate the friction and calculate the wall velocity, taking into account the hydrodynamics. We find that deflagrations are generally more likely than detonations. Nevertheless, for models with extra bosons, which give a strongly first-order phase transition, the deflagration velocity is in general quite high, 0.1 . vw . 0.6. Therefore, such phase transitions may produce an important signal of gravitational waves. On the other hand, models with extra fermions which are strongly coupled to the Higgs boson may provide a strongly first-order phase transition and small velocities, 10−2 . vw . 10 −1, as required by electroweak baryogenesis.

Do Stops Slow Down Electroweak Bubble Walls ?

We compute the wall velocity in the MSSM. We therefore generalize the SM equations of motion for bubble walls moving through a hot plasma at the electroweak phase transition and calculate the friction terms which describe the viscosity of the plasma. We give the general expressions and apply them to a simple model where stops, tops and W bosons contribute to the friction. In a wide range of par...

Towards the theory of the electroweak phase transition.

We investigate various problems related to the theory of the electroweak phase transition. This includes determination of the nature of the phase transition, discussion of the possible role of the higher order radiative corrections and the theory of the formation and evolution of bubbles of the new phase. We show, in particular, that no dangerous linear terms in the scalar field φ appear in the...

Electroweak Baryogenesis and the Phase Transition Dynamics

The baryogenesis is reanalyzed based on the model by A.G.Cohen et al., in which the lepton number, generated by the neutrinos’ scattering from the bubble walls appearing in the development of the electroweak phase transition, is converted to the baryon number excess through the sphaleron transition. A formula obtained in this paper on the lepton number production rate is correct for the both th...

Instability and subsequent evolution of electroweak bubbles.

⋆ e-mail: [email protected]. † SSC Fellow ‡ e-mail: [email protected] § Presidential Young Investigator and Sloan Foundation Fellow Bubbles in a first-order electroweak phase transition are nucleated with radii R0 and expand with velocity v. If v is subsonic, a bubble becomes unstable to non-spherical perturbations when its radius is roughly 104 R0. These perturbations accelerate the ...
